What NHS career would suit you?

System Support Officer

THE WORKING DAY

You are working at Castle Hill today with one of your colleagues providing on-site support.  The rest of the team are working from home. You arrive at 8am to a flurry of calls and emails as the main clinical system is off line. You log this immediately with the system supplier before escalating internally to senior managers. You draft some communications for trust wide distribution to inform users of the problem and downtime procedures. After liaising with the system supplier and the internal teams, the system is thankfully, brought back online.  Having resolved this major system outage this means that the devices scheduled for distribution at Hull Royal this afternoon can go ahead. Most of the kit required is prepared, but you still need to set up a couple of Android and Apple devices and speak to the ward sisters. Once everything is prepared, you find yourself with some time so you grab a few emails queries to work on. Luckily, one of them is a straight forward password reset but there are a couple of queries you need to speak to colleagues about. In the middle of this, a consultant calls you about an issue they are having dictating in clinic so you help them get the clinic back on track before heading off to distribute devices in the afternoon.

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE ME?

You are an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with an interest in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). You are a good communicator, who enjoys problem solving and helping others.

You are organised and analytical yet creative in how you think. You’re able to work under pressure with your team to meet deadlines.

WHAT'S NEXT?

A diploma level qualification particularly in ICT, to demonstrate a good all-round education is essential, as is an advanced European Computer Driving (ECDL). However, proven knowledge and experience to an equivalent level will also demonstrate your suitability for the role.

IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Service Management would be a great advantage.
