Rainbow Badge Assessment

Rainbow Badge Assessment

NHS Rainbow BadgeOn 14 February 2023, we launch the Rainbow Badge project at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This involves a review of our key policies, surveys of our patients, service users, staff, students, volunteers and service managers, and a workforce assessment.

We need your help.

Please complete the relevant survey below. If you’re both a patient and a member of staff, please complete both surveys; otherwise, please choose the one that is most appropriate.

Thank you so much for your feedback!

Patient Survey

What the survey is about:

  • We are wanting to know what patients’ experiences with trust staff has been like in terms of LGBT+ inclusivity (e.g. have staff introduced their pronouns, has a patient’s gender/sexual orientation been asked for or assumed, etc.)
  • We are wanting to know if patients have encountered or witnessed any transphobic/homophobic/biphobic behaviour or language within the trust and what the reporting process has been like.

What the survey is achieving:

  • With this information we will be able to gain an overview of where your trust is at in terms of providing support to LGBT+ staff and patients
  • This will help us develop an action plan for this trust moving forward

Who should complete it:

  • Current and previous patients or service users at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Carers or relatives answering on behalf of current and previous patients or service users

The survey will close on Wednesday 17 May 2023.

Staff Survey

What the survey is about:

  • We are wanting to know how comfortable staff feel about discussing LGBT+ topics with patients and colleagues (this is especially important as we are wanting to hear from everyone, not just members of the LGBT+ community)
  • We are interested to hear about any training that staff have had/would like to have with regards to LGBT+ topics and whether LGBT+ colleagues receive adequate support from the trust
  • We are wanting to know about how important staff think knowing about LGBT+ issues is with regards to providing patient care and supporting colleagues
  • We are wanting to know if staff have had or witnessed any transphobic/homophobic/biphobic behaviour or language within the trust

What the survey is achieving:

  • With this information we will be able to gain an overview of where your trust is at in terms of providing support to LGBT+ staff and patients
  • We will be able to identify what staff would like to see the trust do going forward (eg offer trainings)
  • We will gain a better understanding of the working environment and things that work well and might not work so well when it comes to providing safe spaces for LGBT+ people
  • This will help us develop an action plan this trust moving forward

Who should complete it:

  • Current employees of Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Contractors and agency staff
  • Volunteers
  • Students on placement

The survey will close on Wednesday 17 May 2023.

How can I get my own Rainbow Badge?

If you work at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, you are invited to make an NHS Rainbow Badge Pledge.

Simple visible symbols, such as the NHS Rainbow Badge, can make a big difference for those unsure of both themselves, and of the reception they will receive if they disclose their sexuality and/or gender identity.
